Štokelj Wine Estate is placed in the midst of southern hills that surround Vipava Valley in small village Planina. Planina is known to be one of the best locations for winegrowing. Especially autochthonous varieties are adapted to special growing conditions of the Vipava steep marlstone hillsides. Štokelj estate has always paid special attention to native Pinela variety, because they have recognized the great value, that they want to preserve as heritage for future generations.
In locations where the soil is richer, Merlot and Barbera are planted. From younger vineyards of Merlot they make excellent rose. From the older vineyard of Merlot and Barbera they produce Planta, which is a rich red blend, matured in wooden barrels. On the marl soil they also grow Rebula, known as the most common white variety in the Vipava region from which different styles of wine are made; fresh Rebula, matured Rebula called Planta White and Sweet Rebula – Ambrosia which is made from carefully selected grapes of Rebula, that have been drying on the Vipava bora for several months.
